Literally, this proverb could be translated: ''It is two ‘bon’ that makes bonbon.”
In Haitian Creole, ‘bon’ means good/right and when you put this word together, you have “bonbon” which means cookies/sweets. Almost everybody likes ‘bonbon’!
In almost every aspect of life, we need the frank collaboration of the two parties to succeed in a relationship or in a partnership. The two should be honest and faithful to the cause. Respect, trust, goodwill should be in each of them. Each side should care for the other and the success of the enterprise meeting his/her own commitment.
Haitian people say this proverb when they see two people working faithfully and create a synergy in their collaboration. They also say it to appreciate the frank collaboration of two people/parties and their individual effort to fulfill a goal either a relationship or an enterprise with a desire to succeed together.
This proverb teaches everybody to do his/her part faithfully/honestly/diligently so that a common goal can be achieved. We cannot expect only the other to meet all the responsibilities and stay without doing anything to succeed in the collaboration.
