Doko through Hudson's Lens

One morning last week, I woke up early in the morning at 3:00 am to get prepared to go on a trip with Makendy for Haiti Awake, Steeve had also to wake up early too, so that he can bring us to the bus station.  We were headed to Doko which is in Jeremie.

After we get drop to the bus station, waiting for the bus to get ready at 4:30. Makendy and i has a little conversation about Jeremie which is the countryside where Makendy’s family live. he told me to get ready for a long trip. He couldn’t tell me how long it was, but after the day i figured out that we have been traveled for 14 hours from Port-au-Prince To Jeremie.
Jérémie is the capital city of the Grand'Anse department in Haiti. It is called the city of the poets because of the numerous writers, poets, and historians born there.  We didn’t have time to tour the city but with the few pictures that we have i can tell how it is a nice country.

In October 2016, Jeremie was almost completely destroyed by Hurricane Matthew as it went past Haiti.  That’s when Haiti Awake began to feel to necessity to get there.  They met people who have never know about Jesus because all what they knew is about voodoo, and they also said as they never have a Christian church in their community, how could they know about Jesus.

As this time, Makendy’s family house was damaged by Hurricane Matthew, Haiti Awake helped them. At the same time, we are sharing the love of God with them,  giving them hope, as life is not so easy for them in the rural area they are living in Doko.

When I got to Doko, I met strong people who are struggling with life so that they can bring bread to their family every day.  Occupations include cultivators, farmers, vendors, and fishermen.  They can’t provide all the necessaries things to get all of the kids in school on time, but they are making all of their best to make them go to school even at the age of 13 years old.

According to the people who are living in Doko,  there are more then 100 houses in the community, but I could only not more than 10,  because it was raining almost all the day long.

I want introduce you  to some of the people that I have met.  These families will be part of our Christmas for the Community initiative this fall.
