"Remember the things I have done in the past . . . "
Today my morning reading took me to Isaiah 46:9.
Two years ago today I just couldn’t hold back the tears. All day. October 3, 2016, was a day of waiting - waiting to see where and when Matthew, a Cat 4 hurricane, would arrive in Haiti.
As we waited, we prayed. My friend Ashley Bowers had an idea - to have a community prayer. And we did. And it was amazing as people came and went for three hours - many I had never met before, some I didn’t even meet because they came, prayed with us, and left.
I remember many people praying out loud that night that God would use this storm for good. It’s so hard to imagine good when we are facing something hard, but in looking back after some time passes, we often can.
And here we are today - able to look back and see God’s gracious hand through that disaster, His gracious hand that allowed our staff to go and help their fellow Haitians for weeks, His gracious hand that led Steeve, Maken, and me to Doko, His gracious hand that has continued to guide us into relationship with some of the most beautiful people in the world there in Doko.
We believe God is calling us further into relationship in Doko, and in a few weeks, we’ll be sharing with you how you can be part of long-term planning for the community. Doko is a long, difficult journey from Port-au-Prince. It’s not a place many will ever go with us, but we’re excited about the opportunity for others to be involved in a real way - and see how God can take something that was so difficult - and make it into something so beautiful.
